Last week I have seen a lot of this beautiful city again!
I especially loved to wear the traditional Hanbok clothes while visiting Bukchon Hanok village! In this northern part of Seoul are hundreds of traditional Korean houses. It is still an actual neighborhood with people’s homes.
Last week I also visited Gyeongbokgung Palace. It was built in 1394 and it is the biggest palace of Seoul. Because of Japanese invasions during the Imjin war a lot got destroyed. However, these days all of the palace buildings are restored. It feels like time goes back when walking there. Also here, many girls were having photoshoots in their traditional Hanbok.
Last weekend I went with some other guys of A home in Sinchon to Bukhansan to hike. We met a very kind Korean man that voluntarily offered to be our guide to the top of the mountain. We were very lucky to met him! Full of enthusiasm he told us about the history of the national park and he brought us to a Buddhist temple. He showed us the whole temple, showed us how to pray and we even had lunch there! It tasted very good and we actually didn’t even have to pay for it! If you wanted to, you could leave a voluntarily tip and of course we did.
For the last part of the hike our guide left us alone and we totally understood why he decided that. This part of the hike was a little bit more difficult because of steep rocks. But the amazing view at the top made it all worth it!
Now there is one week left before the semester starts. Unfortunately we’re still not allowed to follow the courses at the university, because of the Corona virus. I will follow online E-courses for two weeks. Hopefully I can start following the courses at the university from the 30th of March.
I notice a lot about the Corona virus in Seoul: I only see a few people at city sights, it’s not crowded at all. Even some shops are closed because far too few people are visiting. Everyone is wearing a mask. You can find posters about the virus and hand desinfection everywhere. I’ve even seen people standing next to the escalator to clean it all day long.
Besides all of this… I feel safe in South-Korea and I think they’re handling the situation very well.

Hoi Livia. Wat een mooi verslag over Korea. Ook bijzonder wat je allemaal hebt gezien en ons mee neemt in een stukje geschiedenis. En wat een geluk dat die gids aan jullie met zoveel enthousiasme zijn land heeft laten zien. Ook heel mooi de foto waar je de hanbokkleding draagt. Jammer dat je vooralsnog niet naar de universiteit kunt gaan. Ik hoop dat je met e-learning toch wat opsteekt en dat je na 30 maart naar de uni kunt gaan. Mooi verhaal over de gids, de tempel en de monniken. Livia, de traditionele kleding staat je erg goed! Hier is ook iedereen in de ban van Corona. Dat 1 virus zo het wereldnieuws kan bepalen. Bizar! Geniet er ondanks het virus en het semester dat later gaat beginnen toch van.
